Welcome Back Coach Wu!!

We are excited to welcome Coach Victor Wu back to CJVA! Coach Wu will coach national teams out of our East Hanover location, scheduled to open in late October.

Coach Wu started playing volleyball for his school at age of 9, and made both the volleyball and Track & Field teams run by the municipal sports authority in his hometown in China a year later.  During his high school years, Coach Wu led the volleyball team to the city finals every year. At his senior year, he turned down an offer to play pro-volleyball for the provincial sports authorities to pursue study in Math and Computer Science in one of the leading universities in China. 

Coach Wu continued to play volleyball in college as a MB for four years for his university. The team was unbeatable among all the colleges in Fujian province in China. In 1982, his team won the silver medal in the 8th provincial games which included teams not only from colleges, but also teams representing each municipal authorities, lost only to the team made of all pro players. In 1984, his team represented the province in the collegiate national championships, the 3rd Xinhua Cup Championships, and finished the 6th.

While teaching Math and Computer Science in a college in China from 1984-1988, Coach Wu was also a co-head coach of the college's men's volleyball team for two years and led the team to the provincial collegiate championship final in 1988. Coach Wu also played USVBA (now USAV) adult open tournaments while working on his Ph.D in Computers Science in the Grad. school at UMass, Amherst, and coached/played/ran an adult team for 4 seasons in the Amherst league. Coach Wu continued playing volleyball after moving to NJ in 1999, and coached the girls volleyball team in Chinese school prior to joining CJVA in 2010. 

Coach Wu has gone through various clubs since 2011 including A5, the Atlanta-based, nationally ranked volleyball club (2nd ranked club in the nation in 2015), and top-notch tournaments at open level including USAV nationals three times (17 Open, 16 National), AAU National twice (17 Open, 16 Open), USAV qualifiers such as Big South, Disney Showcase, MEQ, NEQ, Sports Performance President's Day Challenge, JVA World Challenge, Sports Performance PreNational and AAU Super Regionals.
